
Training program on “Indian pompano farming in different culture systems” under SCSP component
Hands on training on Indian pompano farming in different farming systems was organized under Scheduled Caste Sub Plan (SC-SP) at VRC of CMFRI, Visakhapatnam from 17-3-2025 to 19-3-2025. The training program was organized to impart and disseminate the knowledge on farming of marine finfishes, Indian pompano in different culture systems for the different stakeholders including aqua farmers, research scholars, and small-scale entrepreneurs belongs to Schedules caste community. The inaugural programme was held on 17th march and Dr Sreedhar U, SIC RC of ICAR CIFT, Visakhapatnam presided over the function The program was attended by 25 different participants (12 academic scholars and 13 farmers) from different coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh. During the training program the trainees were imported knowledge on different aspects, on farming of Indian pompano in different farming systems such as open sea cages, coastal cages, coastal ponds and Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS). The trainees were also exposed to different practical sessions on daily husbandry management in cage farm, and nursery rearing systems. During the training programme a bilingual (English and Telugu) training manual was released and distributed to the trainees.
The training programme was Co-ordinated by Dr. Sekar Megarajan, Senior Scientist and Co-Coordinators of the training program were Dr. Ritesh Ranjan, Dr. Biji Xavier, Dr. Jayasree Loka and Dr. Joe K Kizhakudan, Visakhapatnam Regional Centre of ICAR-CMFRI. The valedictory session was held on the 19th March ,and was presided over by Dr K Vijayakumaran Retd PS ICAR CMFRI and Ex DG FSI and certificates were distributed to the participants.
