The Agricultural Knowledge Management Unit (AKMU) of CMFRI, formerly known as the Agricultural Research Information System (ARIS), plays a vital role in supporting the institute with its information technology needs. AKMU conceptualizes a unit specifically designed to cater to the institute's IT requirements. This includes providing strategic advisory guidance on various aspects like procurements, implementation, capacity building, and IT standards. Additionally, AKMU offers cyber security support and facilitates the implementation of various e-services like ICAR-eoffice, ICAR-ERP, and e-HRMS, Institute Digital Repositories etc.
Beyond strategic guidance, AKMU actively manages the operations and maintenance of the institute's ICT infrastructure and applications. This encompasses installation, testing, and upgrades of all applications, including video conferencing support. AKMU's commitment extends to promoting ICT-driven technologies and information dissemination systems within CMFRI. They were instrumental in establishing and managing high- speed internet connectivity of BSNL/MTNL and NKN through WiFi and wired networks across CMFRI headquarters and regional/research stations. Furthermore, AKMU serves as the central hub for designing, maintaining, and updating the CMFRI website and facilitating VPN network connectivity throughout CMFRI locations in India, ensuring secure remote access.
AKMU implements and manages a Data Centre that hosts and supports various internal scientific and administrative applications. This includes the Institute's digital repositories, such as Eprints@CMFRI and Dspace@CMFRI. AKMU hosts and maintains the National Marine Fishery Data Centre and its web-based application software, Fish Catch Survey and Analysis (FCSA). This software plays a vital role in collecting real- time data from fish landing centres using electronic devices and processing it for further analysis. Additionally, AKMU is involved in the development of various in-house web and mobile applications, including TurbAqua, MARLIN@CMFRI, Marine Species Database, and GPF etc..
AKMU implemented a High-Performance Computing facility named ‘Facility for Integrated-modeling Simulation and High-end analytics’ (FISH@CMFRI) for the computational requirements of CMFRI.
