National Fish Farmers Day Celebrated at Karwar Regional Station of ICAR-CMFRI with innovative demonstration of Cadalmin™ Silver-Grow Feed for enhancing Silver Pompano production

Karwar Regional Station of ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) celebrated the National Fish Farmers Day on 10th July 2024 by felicitating progressive marine and coastal cage farmers. During the event, selected progressive farmers from U.K. district were honoured with certificates of appreciation for their excellence in marine and coastal cage farming.Presiding over the function, Dr. Pravin Putra, Former, Assistant Director General (Fisheries), ICAR, New Delhi emphasized the significance of celebrating National Fish Farmers Day. Dr. Prathibha Rohit, Former Scientist-in-Charge of Karwar Regional Station, highlighted the necessity of Industry-Institute collaboration for technological transformation. Shri Suresh Naik, Assistant General Manager, DDM, NABARD, Uttara Kannada District, explained various NABARD schemes available for fish farmers and expressed interest in providing financial support for mariculture activities in the district. Mr. Mohammed Asif Quraishi, Vice President - Fish Feed at IB Group, expressed the company's commitment for producing marine fish feed to advance mariculture and ensure protein security in the country. Earlier, Dr. Suresh Babu, P.P., Scientist-in-Charge of Karwar Regional Station of ICAR-CMFRI, welcomed dignitaries and fish farmers from various parts of Uttar Kannada District to the National Fish Farmers Day 2024 celebration. Dr. Linga Prabhu, Scientist, ICAR-CMFRI proposed the vote of thanks for the programme.

In an unprecedented collaboration, the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) joined forces with ABIS Exports India Pvt Ltd (IB Group) to execute a landmark demonstration of silver pompano cage culture. Leveraging the revolutionary Cadalmin™ Silver-Grow feed, an innovation developed by ICAR-CMFRI, this trial marked a significant leap forward in aquaculture practices. Launched in December 2023, the trial spanned seven months, culminating in a successful harvest on July 10th, perfectly timed to celebrate National Fish Farmers Day. Attendees witnessed the harvest of cage-farmed silver pompano, fed with Cadalmin™ Silver-Grow feed. The fish achieved an average weight of 250 grams, demonstrating the efficacy of the feed and the feeding regimen employed during the trial.This achievement highlights not only the successful partnership between the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) and ABIS Exports India Pvt. Ltd., but also underscores the potential for advancing cage aquaculture practices. The use of indigenous solutions such as Cadalmin™ Silver-Grow, developed by ICAR-CMFRI, shows promise for enhancing sustainability and efficiency in aquaculture operations. This breakthrough supports the industry and significantly contributes to food security initiatives. Scientists who were involved in the demonstration of the new feed were also been felicitated during the function. All the Scientists, technical staff, multi-tasking staffs and administration staff (Staff of KRS of ICAR-CMFRI, Karwar) were actively participated in the celebrations
