ICAR-CMFRI to Celebrate Foundation Day with Matsya Mela and Open House
In a bid to foster community engagement, the ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) will celebrate its Foundation Day by hosting Matsya Mela and open house from February 1 to 3. The fest will feature technology exhibition, farmed live fish sale, buyer-seller meet, seafood expo, entrepreneurship meet, workshops and training sessions. As part of the open house, ICAR-CMFRI will showcase exhibits on wonders of marine life and will open its museum, marine ornamental aquarium and various laboratories for the public on 3rd February.
The event is aimed to popularise latest fisheries technologies, generate market avenue for farmers, promote the local seafood vendors and sustainable practices and create awareness on marine biodiversity.
Latest advancements in the fisheries sector developed by various research institutes will be showcased at the technology exhibition. The fest will also have value-added fish products brought by fish farmers and farmer producer organisations from different parts of the country. The seafood expo with dishes featuring fish, shrimp, crab, and shellfish and indigenous Lakshadweep varieties will be a highlight of the festival. The buyer-seller meet will serve as a key business to business networking platform where producers and buyers of various fish and agricultural products can connect directly to facilitate trade deals.
The primary objective of the Foundation Day celebration is to reach out to the stakeholders and the public, create community awareness on fisheries technologies and foster a connection between marine researchers and the public, said ICAR-CMFRI Director Dr Grinson George.
“Every year, ICAR-CMFRI’s Foundation Day is celebrated with an open house attracting students and the general public to the institute. This year the fish festival will add a unique dimension to the celebration offering a diverse range of activities, including knowledge sharing, networking opportunities, explorations of seafood culinary delights, and access to farm-fresh products”, he added.
