ICAR-CMFRI, Department of Fisheries and NABARD exchange MoU to implement framework on Voluntary Carbon Market in Fisheries
On the occasion of the World Fisheries Day 2024 celebration organised by the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Govt of India on 21st November in New Delhi, a signed MoU was exchanged among the Department of Fisheries, GoI, ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI) and NABARD. The function was attended by Shri. Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh, Hon’ble Union Minister of Fisheries and other dignitaries.
The MoU was aimed basically to reduce the carbon footprint in Fisheries and Aquaculture and to earn carbon credits in the Voluntary Carbon Market (VCM). The VCM is a major leap towards climate change mitigation and achieving carbon credits, which will project India as a major driver for those in pursuit of green modes of achieving blue transformation. Dr J Jayasankar, Principal Scientist and Head of Fishery Resources Assessment, Economics and Extension Division represented ICAR-CMFRI during the MoU exchange ceremony.
