Background :

I pursued a Master's degree in Agricultural Extension in 1995, followed by a Doctorate in Agricultural Extension in 2004, both conferred by Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, located in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Since 1997, I have been actively engaged in the division of Fisheries Extension and Economics at the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI). Throughout my tenure, I have dedicated my efforts to various areas including the analysis of livelihoods among fisherfolk, the implementation of participatory extension methods in marine fisheries, exploration of indigenous technical knowledge among marine fishermen, examination of coastal rural indebtedness, evaluation of the impact of microfinance in the marine fisheries sector, and conducting socio-psychological studies among fisherfolk about climate change.

  • 2004 Jawaharlal Nehru National Award for outstanding PhD thesis in Social Sciences from ICAR, along with citation and Gold Medal.
  • University Gold medal and first position in PhD, Agricultural extension for securing the highest OGPA at the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu in 2004
  • Best paper Award in international symposium on Remote sensing for Ecosystem Analysis and Fisheries- SAFARI 2 during 15-17 January, 2018.
  • Best paper Award in “BRAQON-2019” -World Brackish Water Aquaculture Conference held at Chennai, India from 23-25 January, 2019.
  • Best Poster Award in “BRAQON-2019” -World Brackish Water Aquaculture Conference held at Chennai, India from 23-25 January, 2019.
  • Best paper in Award, XVI Agricultural Science Congress 2023 & ASC Expo organised by ICAR-CMFRI, Kochi and NAAS, New Delhi at Kochi from October 10 to 13, 2023.
  • Geospatial Excellence Award, 2023, Awarded by Geospatial world- Survey of India, Dept. of Science and Technology, GoI.

Recognition:

Recognized as a member of the Expert Writing Team for development of Cooperative Action Plan on "Equitable, Inclusive and Just Work and Business Opportunities for Women in Fisheries." jointly between the GAFS (Gender in Aquaculture and Fisheries Section of AFS), USAID Sustainable Fish Asia Local Capacity Development (SUFIA LCD) and others in 2021-2022.
