Focus of Research :
- Fish health management in mariculture systems
- Biocontrol and bioremedial strategies in mariculture systems
- Microbial interventions in development of biosecurity protocols for Mariculture systems
Background :
Joined as Senior Scientist in ICAR-CMFRI in 2011 and initially worked in Mariculture Division at Karwar Regional Station, Karwar. At Karwar Regional Station, I am involved in cage culture of marine fish and other mariculture activities and identified a new cyclopoid copepod, Apocyclops cmfri. Made significant contributions on development of cage culture protocols, on- farm demonstration programmes in marine and coastal farming of finfish, and also associated with development of brood stock and standardization of breeding & seed production protocols for seabreams and rabbit fish. Also worked on nitrifying bacteria as bioremediation in Marine Aquaculture systems at NOVA University, Florida, USA for a period of 3 months deputation during 2013-2014. At present, I am involved in fish health management of mariculture systems at Visakhapatnam Regional Centre since 2021 and identified beneficial bacterial isolates from fish and sediment as potential Beneficial Bacteria for mariculture systems. With 25 years of experience and expertise in Aquatic Animal Health, marine microbiology and molecular taxonomy of microbial pathogens and probiotics, and 14 years of expertise in marine and coastal cage farming and health management, currently, my focus is on application of microbial interventions in fish health management in mariculture systems. At present, I am working on development species-specific biosecurity protocols for mariculture species at Visakhapatnam Centre.
Education :
- Completed my Post Graduation (Fisheries) in 1992 and M.Phil (1995) and Ph.D in 1999 on bacterial and viral diseases of shrimp at Andhra University, Visakhapatnam.
Made significant contributions on emerging diseases of cultured shrimp as a part of Doctoral and Post doctoral work at Andhra University. - PhD (1999) – Department of Zoology, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh,India
- M.Phil (1995) – Department of Zoology, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, A.P., India
