Five day Trainers training on the jellyfish sting management protocol for Sagar Mitras

A five-day training has been organised on the “jellyfish sting management protocol” from February 12 to February 16, 2024, at the Mandapam Regional Centre of ICAR-CMFRI for the Sagar Mitras of Ramanathapuram coastal district. The training was attended by about 159 Sagarmitras from the areas of Mandapam, Rameswaram, and Ramanathapuram south and north have participated in the training. Smt. M.V. Prabhavathy, the Deputy Director of Fisheries, initiated the training on February 12, 2024. The training covered details on the diversity of different jellyfish species and how to manage their stings based on the threat posed by their venom. The "JellySafe" first aid kit was demonstrated, and trainers were taught how to assemble a tool kit themselves.  The batchwise training was concluded on February 16, 2024.  All the participants were given a tool kit and a certificate. This training was coordinated by Dr. R. Saravanan, senior scientist; Dr. L. Ranjith, senior scientist; and Shri. S. Thirumalaiselvan and convened by Dr. Vinod, Principal Scientist of Mandapam Regional Centre.
