Focus of Research :

  • Assessment of demersal and pelagic marine fish populations: Evaluating species diversity, abundance, biomass, and spatial distribution to understand the ecological dynamics and health of marine fishery resources.
  • Impact of environmental changes and fishing pressure: Analyze the impact of fishing activities, including overfishing, bycatch, and fishing gear types, on the sustainability of marine fish stocks and their ecosystems.
  • Development of sustainable fisheries management practices: Identifying critical habitats, establishing marine protected areas, and advocating for policies that minimize the ecological footprint of fishing activities while ensuring the livelihoods of local fishing communities.

Background :

My research journey began in 2010 at ICAR-CMFRI, equipping me with a strong foundation in Fisheries Resource Management. I have specialized in evaluating the biological characteristics and life histories of marine finfishes and elasmobranchs, fish taxonomy, population dynamics, and fish stock assessment, with a focus on the impacts of climate change on marine ecosystems. I am involved in drafting policy books on non-detriment findings for elasmobranchs, Minimum Legal Size (MLS), and regional fisheries management in Karnataka, guiding and promoting sustainable fishing practices along the Indian coast.

Education :

  • Ph. D  2009  Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University, Bidar, Karnataka
  • M.F.Sc 2004 Fisheries Resource Management (Aquatic Biotoxinology), Central Institute Fisheries Education (Deemed University), Mumbai
  • B.F.Sc   2002  Fisheries, University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, Karnataka
