Focus of Research :

  • Fisheries Oceanography
  • Marine Biodiversity
  • Climate change issues in marine science
  • Remote Sensing
  • Fishery Resource Management
  • Environment Management

Background :

Worked extensively on the sustained application of oceanography, remote sensing, and modeling techniques to support food and nutritional security in fisheries and aquaculture, particularly benefiting artisanal fishermen and aquafarmers in India. Research is deeply rooted in rigorous science with a strong focus on societal benefit, including the development of Potential Fishing Zone Advisories, Coral reef bleaching alerts, and Water Quality advisories supported by a citizen science network. Advocated the use of remotely sensed data and ocean biogeochemistry to assess fishing potential and applied oceanographic science to support the developing cage aquaculture industry. Leadership in research on climate change impacts has been influential at the policy level for the nation and has contributed to adaptation and mitigation strategies at the grassroots level.
