Focus of Research :

  • Marine Finfish & marine ornamental fish breeding and larviculture
  • Live-feed culture (Mass culture of marine microalgae in Recirculation Pond)
  • Marine copepods culture
  • Marine Finfish grow-out mariculture (Pond and Sea-cage farming)

Background :

I have been pursuing mariculture research at ICAR-CMFRI since 2008. I am currently working as a principal scientist in the mariculture division at ICAR-CMFRI, Karwar Regional Station. I have been associated and team lead member in the start-up phase of mariculture at ICAR-CMFRI and gained 15 years of experience in marine fish breeding, larviculture and sea cage grow-out farming of cobia, silver pompano, rabbit fish and selected damsel & clown marine ornamental fishes.  The achievements began with the successful breakthrough in induced breeding and seed production of cobia and silver pompano for the first time in India. Developed and standardized techniques for mass production of selected marine microalgae, Nanochloropsis gadiatina, in open raceway ponds for commercial production of algae paste and algae meal used in aqua hatcheries and pharmaceutical industries. Developed the package of practice for mass production of marine copepods of Acartia spinicauda. A. southwelli, Pseudodiaptomus serricaudatus and Parvocalanus crassirostris as important live-feed in marine fish hatcheries are the major research area.
