Dr. Abdul Azeez P.

Role : Scientist

   abdul.p@icar.gov.in

Focus of Research :

  • Fishery biology and marine ecology
  • Spatial ecological analysis, modelling and MSP
  • Fishery stock assessment, management and policy

Background :

I started working at ICAR-Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute in 2016 and am now based at the Veraval Regional Station, Gujarat. My Ph.D. in Fisheries Resource Management from ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education in Mumbai, where my thesis focused on the application of remote sensing and GIS for managing the ribbonfish fishery along the north-west coast of India. My expertise is in studying fish distribution patterns using geospatial and remote sensing technologies for fisheries management. I conduct fieldwork and collect fishery data, particularly species length and biology, to better understand the structure of the food web, spawning season, fishery bycatch and stock status, as well as how it varies over time and space.

Education :

  • Ph.D., ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Education (Deemed University), Mumbai,India-2021
  • M.F.Sc., College of Fisheries, Junagadh Agricultural University, Junagadh, India-2014
  • B.F.Sc., College of Fisheries, Karnataka Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Sciences University, Mangalore, India-2012
